The Warmest Donor Day

Pre-holiday blood drives aimed at collecting blood for young patients of regional children’s hospitals.

Since 2015, to mark St. Nicholas Day, we have organized annual blood donation campaigns where caring citizens can donate blood for children undergoing treatment in regional children’s hospitals across Ukraine.

The friendly, festive atmosphere of these events helps people see blood donation in a new light and shows how comfortable and easy the process can be. Moreover, holding blood drives during the holiday season allows us to build up a reserve for the following weeks — a time when people often break their diets and cannot donate blood promptly if needed.

In 2015, the event took place at the Kyiv Regional Blood Center in Bila Tserkva. The following year, it expanded to seven cities — Sumy, Uzhhorod, Kremenchuk, Zhytomyr, Dnipro, Kyiv, and Bila Tserkva.

In 2017, the campaign was held in Dnipro, Odesa, and twice in Lviv — at the Regional Blood Service Center and the City Emergency Hospital.

In 2018, the pre-holiday donation was “doubled” in Kyiv, taking place at the Park Inn by Radisson Kyiv Troyitska and the Institute of Religious Sciences. The event also took place in Dnipro, Odesa, and Lviv.

In 2019, the campaign received its permanent name — “The Warmest Donor Day” — and was held at the Lviv Regional Blood Service Center, Mozart Hotel in Odesa, and Aloft Hotel in Kyiv.

In 2020, despite the pandemic, we managed to host The Warmest Donor Day at the Park Inn by Radisson in Kyiv.

In 2021, we caught up on what had been missed — the campaign covered seven cities: the Dnipro, Odesa, and Mykolaiv Regional Blood Transfusion Stations; the Prykarpattia and Zhytomyr Regional Blood Service Centers; Park Inn by Radisson Kyiv; and the MARK Shopping Center in Lviv.

Even the full-scale war could not stop The Warmest Donor Day. In 2022, it was held in nine cities — at the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad Regional Blood Transfusion Stations, and at the Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Rivne, and Kyiv City Blood Centers.

We are deeply grateful to all donors, volunteers, and partners who support this initiative — and we look forward to seeing you at the next Warmest Donor Days!
