We’ve launched a new stage of the “Walking Blood Bank” project — with the goal of engaging up to 750,000 new donors by determining the blood types of 2 million Ukrainians.

DonorUA, in cooperation with Eldon Biologicals and the Yashchenko Foundation, and with financial support from Direct Relief, has started a new phase of the “Walking Blood Bank” initiative.

As part of the project, we determine blood types at public events, encouraging citizens to join the donor community. From now on, the project’s geography is expanding — such events will be regularly held across Ukraine.

Blood typing is done using the safe and rapid Eldon Card method, developed in Denmark.

We involve laboratory technicians, volunteers, and family doctors in the project. This new stage began with a training session, where over 47 medical professionals and volunteers learned how to use the Eldon Card.

The event took place in Lviv, after which participants practiced their new skills by determining visitors’ blood types at Victoria Gardens.

“Walking Blood Bank” is also an important tool for implementing the national strategy to develop voluntary, unpaid blood donation — this year alone, the project could inspire up to 35,000 people to join the donor movement.
